The group’s main business areas are aeronautics, space and defence systems. In 2018, Saab had sales of SEK 35 billion (EUR 3.4 billion). About 15 per cent of turnover was invested in research & development (R&D). During World War II most production by Saab was directed towards military aircraft for the Swedish Air Force such as Draken fighter jets and Viggen multirole fighters/attack aircraft/reconnaissance aircraft; among other types designed between 1950s-1970s like SK60 / AJS37 Viggen trainer jet,, AJ 37 Viggen strike fighter bomber(canard delta wing) , JA 37 Vigge interceptor,, Gripen C/D multirole 4++ gen light weight stealthy agile supersonic all weather combat aircraft – developed during 1980s to replace aging Vietnam war era US made equipment .
